Wine Tasting Classes
All
classes to be held at Good Mansion Wines at 95-14th Street in East Wheeling.
Each class is limited to 12 people and costs are as indicated. All Wine
Tasting Classes begin at 7:30 p.m. Please stop or call in to the shop
to pay for your reservation in advance. Please note the day and time
of your reservation—you WILL NOT receive a notice before the tasting.
All reservations are nonrefundable and cannot be transferred to another
tasting date.

Rhone Valley Values
SEPTEMBER 10, 2009
Some of the best red wines for the price come from the Rhone Valley
near France’ s southern coast. These wines are predominantly blends
of the fruity syrah grape and the strong Grenache grape which serves
as a backbone.
These wines are smooth, elegant, and surprisingly inexpensive. Tasting
will include Cotes du Ventoux, Cotes du Rhone, Beaumes de Venise, Gigondas,
and Vacqueras. Simple cheeses and breads will accompany.

Wines from Friuli
OCTOBER 8, 2009
Friuli is Italy’s hidden treasure of wine production, located
in its northeast corner, where Austrian, Hungarian, and Slovenian cultures
influence cuisine as much as Italian. Its wines will most definitely
exceed your expectations. White wines indigenous to Friuli are some
of the world’s best crafted, refreshing wines, for a fraction
of the price of many better known ones. This tasting will offer both
the region’s white and red varietals, including tocai friulano,
ribolla gialla, piccolit, pinot grigio, pignolo, and Blaufraenkisch.
Served with Friuli antipasti, including “cuts” of prosciutto
San Danielle and regional cheeses.

Wines for the Thanksgiving Day Table

Due to its popularity, Good Mansion Wines is offering this special night
for our close family of cherished customers—a traditional Thanksgiving
Day meal accompanied by our picks of absolute must have wines at the
table. The wines will include Riesling, Gewuerztraminer, Pinot Noir,
Merlot, and special dessert wines.

Christmas Champagne
DECEMBER 10, 2009
Celebrate the Christmas season with the pure pleasure of French Champagne.
Enjoy an evening of all the well known producers of both brut and rose
sparkling wines from this region of France that will eternally be the
benchmark of sparkling wine. Served with an assortment of Betsy Ann
American Chocolate truffles and cordial strawberries, lox and cream
cheese, and other appetizers.

Nebbiolo Wines
JANUARY 14, 2010
The nebbiolo grape from the Piedmont of Italy is the king of red grapes,
and the wines that are made from this grape are the kings of red wine.
It is the biggest red grape of the world, known for its ability to create
powerful, masculine, dry wines that have enormous aging capability,
including Barolo, Barbaresco, Gattinara, and Langhe. These are best
enjoyed with rich, slow cooked, traditional Piemontese food, so a full
meal of osso buco with polenta and truffle will compliment the experience.

Magnificent Malbec

Napa Juice

It has mastered in particular the art of cabernet sauvignon wine, one
of the Bordeaux varietals. The Napa terroir has found its voice with
cabernet. These wines are powerful, explosive, and intense. A wide array
of some of the most interesting boutique and cult cabernets will be
tasted, along with a filet mignon meal.

White Treasures

There has been an explosion in recent years of interesting white grapes
that have become their own through newer white wine appellations. Some
of them are lost ancient grapes, others were traditional blending grapes,
and still others have been around for centuries but not yet discovered
by Americans. Enjoy this sampling of some wines that you will not find
easily elsewhere, including South American torrontes, Sicilian grillo,
Rhone Valley marsanne, Austrian gruener veltliner, and others. Served
with basic cheeses and bread.
