Good Mansion Wines Welcomes Its Italian Family With a “Wines from Le Marche, Italy” Wine Tasting

Good Mansion Wines welcomed relatives from Ascoli Piceno, Italy during a very special Happy Hour Wine Tasting at the shop on May 1, 2009. Bernardina DiCesare and Paolo Fabbri, who currently live in the Tuscan city of La Spezia, arrived at the shop to share wines from Le Marche region with over thirty five people. Among the wines tasted were the venerable white Verdicchio from the Castelli dei Jesi area of Le Marche, the red Rosso Piceno from the province of Ascoli Piceno, the red Rosso Conero from the Ancona region, and a proprietary Cabernet Sauvignon.

Ascoli native and Greensburg, PA resident Marco Cantini, David Allinder, Bernardina DiCesare, owner Dominick Cerrone, Paolo Fabbri, Manual Viola, Rosalia DiCesare Viola, and Randall Weyrich at the May 1, 2009 “Wines from Le Marche” Wine Tasting.

This central Italian region, which is located northeast of Rome, spans from the Appenine Mountains in the west to the Adriatic in the east. Bernardina, a native from the tiny Appenine mountain village of Capodacqua outside of Ascoli Piceno, shared stories of her fellow villagers’ treks to the top of their mountain to pick porcini mushroom and black truffles. The hearty cuisine of hunted game, porcini, truffle, and cream of the mountainous regions around Capodacqua that goes so well with red wines contrasts the intense varieties of sea food found along the coast only an hour and a half away, which go nicely with the region’s white wines.

Lidia Bastianich, the legendary Italian food personality, commented in a recent conversation with Good Mansion Wines to “watch out for Marchegiano wines. They are real sleepers. This region is an up and coming wine producing region.”

Good Mansion Wines has the tri state area’s largest variety of wines from Le Marche, which the New York Times has called “the Second Tuscany” in its Travel section in 2005.

Overall, there was a 24% increase in customers through the door in 2008. “Despite national economic downturns, people in Wheeling recognize the enduring value of a simple, special pleasure like wine,” says store owner Dominick Cerrone. In addition to an overall robust year, Good Mansion Wines also exceeded its 2008 holiday season goal, with an almost 30% increase in gross sales in November and almost 20% increase in the month of December. “We could not do it without the loyal support of customers, who have always valued having the state’s largest variety of wine in their hometown,” says Cerrone.
